Located in the Northwest Territories, Canada; Pilot Lake was formed from a meteorite impact 440 Millions years ago. The crater is 4 miles in diameter and 300ft deep and now holds a pristine body of water home to an abundance of Lake trout and Northern Pike.
We recommend medium/heavy 2-piece spincast or baitcast rods in the 7' range with fresh line and steel leaders able to land 40" pike and 30lb Lakers.
Lures don't have to be large. Len Thompson No. 0 (2 1/2") and up work great. Heavier lures help when jigging. Single hook lures are great for easier releases and lower mortality on released fish. Bring an assortment. - A great place to start is bright lures on sunny days and dark lures on cloudy days.
Lake trout are fierce fighters, that grow into absolute giants. The smaller 'eaters' make for the perfect shore lunch.
Early in the season they can be found in the shallows, ready to strike at a well-cast spoon. As summer temperatures rise, they retreat to the cool, deep waters, where trolling or jigging becomes the ticket.
Jackfish are relentless hunters with primal instincts to strike out of sheer aggression. They are one of the most exciting catches around due to the constant hard-fighting action. These dinosaurs can be found casting into shallow waters or trolling the depths.
